We can help.
With a simple CT scan procedure known as a Calcium Scoring Exam, we can help you determine your risk of cardiac issues.
Cardiac calcium scoring, also known as a coronary calcium scan, is a noninvasive CT scan that measures the amount of calcium in the heart’s arteries. The scan helps doctors determine the presence and extent of plaque buildup in the coronary arteries, which can lead to heart disease and heart attacks.
What to expect during the exam
You lie on your back on a table that slides into the scanner, and a provider cleans and places patches on your chest. The scan takes multiple images synchronized with your heartbeat.
Results
The scan produces a calcium score, also called an Agatston score, which is a number that indicates the amount of calcium and its density. The score is based on the scan and other factors like age, gender, and race.
A radiologist analyzes the images and sends a report to your doctor. A higher score indicates a higher risk of heart disease.
A doctor can use the results of a cardiac calcium scan to:
- Decide on cholesterol and blood pressure goals
- Determine if cholesterol-reducing medications are needed
- Recommend lifestyle changes or other treatments
- Decide if further testing is needed
How to schedule an exam
We need a physician’s order to schedule the exam, so it is best to call your primary care physician and have them send us the order or you can bring with you. You will need a primary care physician for the results to be sent to. If you don’t have a primary care physician let us know and we can recommend one and assist you in getting an appointment.
Currently, testing is not covered under insurance, however, we are offering the testing for $99 per exam which covers the cost of the exam and the radiologist reading of the exam. Payment is expected when you present for testing.
